What are some issues that come up during construction?

If you are a long-time construction business owner in Alabama, then you understand that construction disputes happen all the time. Often, you cannot avoid them. There are some situations, though, that you can avoid if you plan ahead. Knowing the common issues that bring about disputes can help you to prepare for them and possibly avoid them. If nothing else, preparing will let you handle them easily with little disruption to the project.

Home Advisor states one of the most common construction issues is delays in the schedule. This is very hard to prevent when delays happen due to weather or waiting on permits. Sometimes you cannot stop a delay from happening, but that does not mean your client will understand. To avoid serious issues with delays, work a clause into your contract that will cover such situations.

Another common issue is receiving the wrong order of supplies. This is especially common with custom orders. You cannot easily run out and replace it. You will have to reorder and wait again for it to ship to you. This is frustrating for you and for the homeowner. There is not much you can do if you sent the order correctly and the error was with the supplier. Talk with the client about how they want to handle the issue. They might decide to just keep the product as it came and avoid the hassle of a reorder. In the future, always triple check custom orders, including measurements and details.

There are plenty of other issues that could come up during a construction project, but the solution for them all is usually having an open conversation with the client or planning ahead and including clauses to cover possible issues in your contract.
